Leading groups and teams to think and ideate in order to make higher quality decisions (whatever the application) in the work environment is a common need throughout most organizations today. Yet we continue to use slow and unproductive processes to fulfill that need. Point to point thinking, Yes/No thinking, argument, power and authority issues all prevail in typical decision-making processes. You can imagine and perhaps know the consequences via your own experience. More often than not the best ideas do not emerge, and those participating are often reluctant to play given the power and authority issues at hand. Even when an idea comes forth there is often low ownership resulting in ineffective implementation. And the list of issues and problems can go on.
In the middle of all this confusion and unproductive effort you might hear someone say or you might think to yourself, “What we need is a way to think and act more productively as a group in order to make higher quality decisions about the work we do!” And our internal or external ears hear a resounding YES to that need.
A new program for internal managers interested in Leading and Facilitating (not training) individuals and teams as they address key company issues. Designed via its credentials as a highly effective and productive team decision making process, it creates a positive environment of collaboration and creating the needed ‘we’ for the team. The program has three different levels of professional competence:
The program is built on a combination of online sessions and your practiced experience of leading groups. The starting point begins with your participation in the one day Six Thinking Hats program online followed by six 90-minute sessions, scheduled in 8 to 10-day increments of online consultation. Issues we will discuss include The Facilitator Role in Leading the Exploration Process, Designing the Sequence, Utilizing the Discipline of the Process, Understanding the Nature of Parallel and Lateral Thinking, Self Awareness and Practice (Suggested Personality Test, The Big 5), Selecting and Managing the Group Space, Ethics and Bias, and Creating Productive Results.
The time separation during the Coaching Phase provides an opportunity for you to practice the facilitation process to progressively develop your competence and confidence as a professional de Bono Group Facilitator. Both Six Thinking Hats and Lateral Thinking follow the same pattern of learning. Lateral Facilitation requires successful completion of the Six Thinking Hats process.
